Clarington World Neighbour Day - This event has already occurred
Event Details:
Mayor Foster proclaimed June 1st as Clarington World Neighbour Day, in following the tradition of thousands of other municipalities worldwide who are celebrating this day.
"By weaving connected, vibrant and welcoming neighbourhoods, we are able to collectively shape a more just and sustainable society. »
And it can all start with a simple neighbourhood event!
Our belonging, and the quality of our connections, are inseparable from happiness. People who trust their neighbors have higher levels of life satisfaction.
On June 1st, let's show everyone how Clarington celebrates World Neighbour Day!
Clarington residents are encouraged to create events on their street, their block or in their building that will help foster and deepen neighbourly connections.
Ideas for neighbourly gatherings include: Block party, welcoming new neighbours, book exchange, yard sale, bake sale for charity, community walking tour, neighbourhood clean-up, kid art contests, pancake breakfast, lemonade stand, pizza party, starting a community garden, bike tune-up stand, the possibilities are limiteless!
The Mission: to build stronger, more caring and effective communities.
The Vision: to reinforce the relationships that form the fabric of our communities. It is a day of simple gatherings to share food, fellowship and fun while re-kindling friendships; welcoming new neighbors; catching up on each others' families, interests and needs.
Bringing neighbors together builds connectedness. And connectedness builds more satisfying, self-sufficient and effective communities that strengthen our towns, provinces and country as a whole.
